Goalkeepers

In our series "Player Attributes Explained", we give you more information about the influence of the individual attributes of the players on the gameplay. The attributes have been the same for several parts of the FIFA series, which will soon be called EA-SPORTS FC, and are divided into the six big categories Pace, Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, Defence and Physicality, especially in the Ultimate Team mode.

Today we give you an overview of the individual attributes of the goalkeepers. Goalkeepers have a total of six basic attributes, which differ from the basic values of the field players. However, you often don't know how the individual attributes affect the gameplay and what strengths or weaknesses you can expect if one of the attributes is particularly high or low. For this reason, we explain the individual attributes below.

Goalkeepers - All attributes at a glance

  • Diving: Diving describes how well a goalkeeper can perform aerial jumps in order to block the opponent's shot with a save. The higher the value, the more likely the goalkeeper is to reach balls that other goalkeepers would not be able to reach.

  • Handling: This attribute indicates how often the goalkeeper actually catches and holds the ball. The higher the value, the more likely the goalkeeper is to hold a shot in his arms instead of parrying it.

  • Kicking: This value indicates how far a goalkeeper can kick a ball and how accurately the ball arrives where one is aiming. This also includes hand kicks.

  • Reflexes: Reflexes indicate how quickly a goalkeeper can react to a shot or header. The difference is particularly noticeable with shots from close range. A high value ensures that the goalkeeper can still instinctively deflect a ball, while other goalkeepers show no reaction at all.

  • Speed: This attribute describes the same as for the field players. It is also made up of Acceleration and Sprint Speed and shows how fast the goalkeeper runs across the pitch with or without the ball. Goalkeepers are generally rather slow.

  • Positioning: This value describes how well a goalkeeper stands in space. The higher the value, the better the goalkeeper stands, e.g. in standard situations and more often picks the ball off opposing crosses.
