Like every year before the release of the new FIFA game, fans are discussing the new player ratings. Which players will get the biggest upgrades or downgrades? In today’s blog, we take a look at the stars who, at least in our opinion, deserve the biggest rating upgrades in FIFA21. We have pretty much every position included – from left back to striker. In the 2019/2020 season, an extraordinary number of youngsters got into the lime light. Some of them will definitely make it into the top 5 of the biggest upgrades.
The first player is obvious. The Norwegian who gives funny interviews has played an unbelievable season. Both with RB Salzburg and with Borussia Dortmund since January. The 20-year-old came out of nowhere and performed outstandingly in almost every game and competition he played in – in the league as well as in the cup and Champions League.
By the way, the striker is the son of former Premier League player Alf-Inge Haaland so his talent is no surprise. Erling attracted the attention of several top clubs last season with strong performances for RB and made the switch to Borussia Dortmund in January for just 20 million Euros – another very clever transfer from the Germans. Haaland scored incredible 44 goals last season and also put up 10 assists. He also broke several Champions League and Bundesliga records.
In FIFA20, Haaland started with a 73 rating and got an upgrade to 79 in winter. We think that the youngster definitely deserves an upgrade of at least +6 and an 85 rated card in FIFA21.
The 17-year-old Barca youngster is THE discovery of last season. In October last year, he was promoted into Barcelona’s first team at just 16-years-old and it didn’t take long for him to impress players, coaches and experts.
After some very strong performances it didn’t take long until the Spaniard was deemed as Messi’s successor by experts and fans, which shouldn’t be a surprise if you’ve seen him play. Just watch a highlight video of him if you still need to convince yourself.
Fati’s biggest strengths are definitely his dribbling and shooting. Last season the latest product from Barca’s talent factory “La Masia” came up with strong 7 goals and one assist in 33 games. He also broke several records – he became Barcelona’s youngest goal scorer and the youngest goal scorer in the history of the Champions League. Last weekend against Ukraine, Fati also became the youngest goal scorer in the history of the Spanish national team.
Initially, Ansu didn’t even have a card in FIFA20 Ultimate Team. He got a 73 rated card in January. In our opinion, the talent at least deserves a +6 upgrade and a 79 rated card in FIFA21.
The next shooting star comes from the Manchester United’s talent factory. Thanks to an outstanding second half of the season, the Red Devils were able to secure a Champions League place for next year. Mason Greenwood played a decisive role in this comeback. The 18-year-old striker is already a crucial part of the United team. With 19 goals and 5 assists in the past season, he definitely set a high standard for himself in the upcoming season.
Greenwood is a member of the new golden generation of England alongside stars like Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden and many more. Greenwoods biggest advantage is definitely that he’s both footed. Greenwood shoots free kicks and corners with his right and left foot equally precise. A skill only a handful of players on this planet have. Greenwood started FIFA20 with a 67 silver card. A rating that quickly turned out to be too low. In FIFA21 the talent definitely earned himself an upgrade of at least +9 and a 76 rated gold card.
“Phonzie” without a doubt is the biggest surprise from last season. He went from sitting on the bench and playing for the second team to being arguably the best left back in the world. Especially his performance against Barca in Bayern’s incredible 8:2 win left a lot of fans speechless.
Davies started FIFA20 as a 72 rated left midfielder and didn’t get a winter upgrade – which is a joke if you look at his performances even before the winter break. Alphonso will definitely receive a huge upgrade and of course a position change in FIFA21. Our prediction for “Phonzie” is an 82 rated left back card which will be one of the most overpowered options for this position in the upcoming game. If you want to find out more about Alphonso’s life and career, check out our previous blog about him The evolution of “Phonzie”
The young Scot is probably the least known talent on this list. Gilmour plays for Chelsea as a central midfielder and drew attention in the second half of the season. After his performances in the league against Everton (in which he became the youngest MOTM in the history of the Premier League) and in the FA Cup in a surprise win over Liverpool, many experts have compared him to his coach and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. A great honor for the 19-year-old.
With his just 1,70m of height, the youngster’s playing style strongly reminds of Barca legends Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta. He is calm on the ball and seems to find the right pass every time. A skill not many players possess.
Next season will show if Gilmour can keep up the performances he’s shown this season. Regardless, he will definitely get a better FIFA21 rating than the 62 rated bronze card he got this year. We’re predicting a +10 upgrade to a 72 rated silver card.
