Defending

In our series "Player Attributes Explained", we give you more information about the influence of the individual attributes of the players on the gameplay. The attributes have been the same in the FIFA series, which will soon be called EA-SPORTS FC, for several parts and are divided into the six big categories Pace, Shooting, Passing, Dribbling, Defending and Physicality, especially in the Ultimate Team mode.

Today we will give you an overview of the individual attributes of the Defending category. The dribbling category has a total of five attributes. However, you often don't know how the individual attributes affect the gameplay and what strengths or weaknesses you can expect if one of the attributes is particularly high or low. For this reason, we explain the individual attributes below.

Defending - All attributes at a glance

  • Interception: Interception describes how well the player can intercept the ball on opponent passes. With a high value, the player can reach balls with a higher probability, e.g. by sticking his leg out far.

  • Heading Accuracy: This attribute indicates the accuracy of headers. The higher the value, the more likely the ball will arrive exactly where you aim when passing or trying to score.

  • Def. Awareness: Def. Awareness refers to the player's ability to stay close to the opposing player when defending so that he cannot be played to. A high value in man-Def. Awareness also helps in running duels against the opponent.

  • Standing Tackle: The higher this value, the more likely the player is to win a duel against his opponent in defence and thus to win the ball.

  • Sliding Tackle: The higher the value here, the more likely the player is to successfully execute a sliding tackle and hit the ball without committing a foul. In general, however, sliding tackles are very risky and often lead to warnings or even sending-offs.
